Harper Adams student picks up award

A STUDENT from Harper Adams University College has been awarded £150 from a national company.
Second-year Countryside student, Julia Burley, picked up the prize after producing the best assignment on a planning module.
The prize for the module, sponsored by specialist consultancy company Acorus, was presented by Phil Plant, Senior Consultant at the company’s Wolverhampton branch.
For the project, students had to attend a planning committee meeting at a local council and get information on the application and assess how well the application had been handled by the applicant and the planners.
Commenting on the award, Mr Plant, said, as an ex-student at Harper Adams said he was pleased to be part of the project.
He added: “It is very satisfying to see students at Harper taking an interest in the Planning Module. Planning issues affect us all and a good understanding is essential to anyone working in a land based profession.”
Module Tutor, John Bentley, added: 'The planning assignment is designed to give students a real insight into how the planning system works and Julia did an excellent job on this. Having Acorus sponsor the project made the assignment seem like a real piece of consultancy for a client, with a financial reward, which was a great incentive to the students to produce a good report.”
